Days 1-14

Since I am recapping to get caught up- here's a quick synopsis of days we have already done:
Day 1- Not hungry, but sure did burn a lot of extra calories chopping all the veggies. Seems the whole day was taken up with food prep, exercise, recovery after exercise, and finding the perfect protein bars.
Day 2- PLYOMETRICS- Not for the faint of heart. About 50 minutes of jumping sprinting, heart-rate maximizing exercises. But, Nate and I agreed- it was kind of fun!
Day 3- CRASH! No carbs caught up with Meredith today. Could not think or complete sentences! Does this mean I can start using those fat reserves, please? In P90X Meal Guide it mentions something called "bonking" that means you are tapped out, fuzzy-headed and weak. (I was). It said to add a serving of complex carbs to give the body what it needs (I did). And guess what? It helped! Crisis averted.
Days 4-8- Discovered we ate, between the two of us, SIXTY-FOUR EGGS in the first week! Whoa, that's 32 eggs a piece. Sounds like a lot, huh/ Meanwhile, we simply continued the working out, followed the Menu Plan to the letter until Day 8 and that's when I felt free to improvise a little. Had spoken with someone from my church who is about 1 month ahead of us and she said she has learned to improvise and do it without the Menu Plan....and they are still losing weight!
Day 9 - OOPs! It's those pesky Plyometrics again! And after the workout, I was weak until eating 2 protein bars and yes, later on that day....I cheated!! Cake from Kirby and Alexis' wedding and a cup of coffee. HEAVENLY and "a little dab" did me. I really don't feel bad about it, it was DELICIOUS!

Going from Good to Better

So many times, I have wished that I knew someone to ask before I jumped in and spent money- and time- on a new health fad. Or, that I could just sample it, 'til I decide I like it or not.

Recently, Nathan and I felt the same way about an exercise program we saw advertised in an infomercial by Beachbody.com. The pictures they showed were....believable and unbelievable all at once. I knew the concept of muscle confusion they were speaking of, as I was a Firm Instructor back in the day. And, honestly, a lot of what P90x is close to what we were taught at The Firm.

This blog will cover our P90X journey, as well as offer some guest-bloggers a chance to review the health fad THEY are trying. Let's find out how to go from "Good to Better!"

Pre-Pre-P90x
Nate and I had to do something. The pants were getting tight after six-months of culinary revelry. Of course, we have been working out, as long as we didn't feel like we had to have a nap. Or a snack.

Meanwhile, during one of our trips to the gym, on one of those elliptical machines, we both caught sight of the Tony Horton P90X infomercial. Convincing. Challenging. But, after you buy all that stuff, are you simply left with a set of DVD's and a chin up bar that taunts you from a doorway, where it has hung, unused for months?

Pre-P90x
Okay, so
we didn't realize what we had gotten ourselves into. Once we got the DVD set, we realize, "Oh! Now we need the pull-up bar!" And, "Oh! A set of resistance bands, a few weights and some special foods."

This is going to be interesting.

Getting Started

So, it's the night before and I am a little freaked out but mostly excited. This is because we are at Wal-Mart (my own personal hell) trying to save a bit of money on the food we have to buy- a lot of fresh veggies and meats, as well as special vinegars and spices. At this point, I have decided to follow the menu plan exactly, because if we don't, and then it doesn't work, we'll have lost that magical momentum that happens upon embarking on a new program.

Our friend has already visited and taken out body fat measurements. We had taken the hour-long Fit Test. We made a TWO PAGE grocery list and shopped for all food items. And we took the most unflattering "before" pictures we could muster (we didn't have to try hard). I mean, you cannot just open up these DVD's and get started!

Finally it is the night before, and there is a lot of chopping and food prepping to be done. I am eating Edy's vanilla Thin Mint ice cream, a kind of Last Supper.

Here we go.
